K-Picture Books Come to LA: 'Saving Birds with Dots and Lines'

KCCLA Hosts Award-Winning Author Zo-O for a Special Talk on A Dot, a Line, a Bird

LOS ANGLES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 18, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA), led by Director Haedon Lee, with support from the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea (KPIPA), will present the Exhibition of Outstanding Korean Picture Books and Author Talk with Zo-O on August 22 at the Pio Pico–Koreatown Branch Library and August 23 at West Hollywood Park. The program will feature Zo-O, author of A Dot, a Line, a Bird, winner of the Grand Prize in the Fiction category at the 2025 Korea Picture Book Awards, who will meet with local children and families and share the inspiration, creative process, and stories behind her work. A selection of outstanding Korean picture books, including A Dot, a Line, a Bird, will also be exhibited and available for purchase.

On August 22 at the Pio Pico–Koreatown Branch Library, Zo-O will give a special talk exploring the inspiration, creative process, and message behind her picture book, followed by a conversation with the audience. On August 23, KCCLA will participate in the Los Angeles Kids Book Festival, where visitors can explore an exhibition of award-winning Korean picture books, attend an author talk with Zo-O, and take part in special giveaway activities.

Zo-O gained international recognition with her debut picture book, Corner (2020), which was selected as a 2024 USBBY Outstanding International Book and named one of Kirkus Reviews’ Best Picture Books of 2023.

Her acclaimed work, A Dot, a Line, a Bird, tells the story of birds colliding with glass windows in an urban environment and explores how small acts of courage and collective effort can bring about meaningful change and hope. Inspired by the simple act of placing dots and lines on windows to help prevent bird collisions, Zo-O transforms a real-world solution into a thoughtful picture-book narrative that invites readers to reflect on how humans and other living beings can coexist within the cities we have created.

KCCLA has continued to present annual programs introducing the literary and artistic value of Korean picture books to children, parents, and family audiences in the United States. Last year, the Center invited author and illustrator Jung-soon Go for a special program featuring her picture book Okchundang, including an author talk and exhibition.
KCCLA will continue to expand its literary programming throughout the second half of the year. Upcoming programs include a September event with a Korean American author in partnership with a local Los Angeles bookstore, followed by a special lecture by a Korean American poet in October, presented in collaboration with a local literary organization.

The programs are free and open to the public. Visitors may RSVP in advance through the KCCLA website or attend as walk-ins without prior registration. Additional information, including participation and parking details, is available at www.kccla.org.
